Drawing & Mixed Media for Homeschoolers
This class is a little different from our usual classes as we are opening up the age range for our homeschool students. Because of the wide age range in this class, extra stress will be put on helping one another, and collaborating in the classroom. Projects in this class will be a little bit more open ended then our other classes, with older students given the option to take their project to the next level. Students will work on guided step-by-step drawings that expand their skills. They will learn to take an image and turn it into a piece of art through breaking down drawings into individual shapes and lines. Students will work on color theory and mixing, shading, proportions, and expanding their drawing skills. Students will use a wide variety of media which may include watercolor, colored pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylic paint, clay, and the occasional craft project. Felting, Stitching, & Fabric Art
Back by popular demand! In this class we will learn the ins and outs of using different types of fabric, wool, and yarn. Through the 10 weeks of this course students will learn different types of embroidery stitches, and create a beautiful art piece with them. They will also get a chance to try felting; for students who have taken this course before, you will have the opportunity to try a more complex felting project. We will also try a type of fabric dyeing called Cyanotype and use what we create with it to create a piece of art involving our embroidery stitches. If time allows, we will work on some more hand-sewing projects as well. We are happy to be able to offer this class which will launch students into a new form of art which also has many everyday uses. We advise that younger students have good hand-eye coordination as we will be using needles.

Studio Painting Class
Come to our relaxed and inviting Studio Class! This class is a mixture of studio time and guided projects. That means we will spend half of our time working on guided painting projects together that will help you learn new techniques, speed up your process, learn new styles, work on brush control, color mixing, and more. It also means that students will be able to work on their own painting projects using our supplies, with a teacher here to assist you whenever needed. This class works well for students who use acrylics or oils, and have some experience with drawing and painting. We recommend taking the beginner painting class before registering for this one if you do not have previous painting experience. This is a chance to create art with others while having teacher Karen here to get you through any places in your artwork where you might otherwise be stuck. Come with ideas, you will be in control of most of your projects in this studio class.

Studio Watercolor Painting
This class is new at BellinghamART and is designed for students who already have some experience in watercolor painting. Weather you have taken Michael’s class before through us, or have been working on your own, this class may be a good fit for you. We ask that students who register inquire first via email to ensure that you are a good fit for the class. We are hoping to limit the class size to 8 in order for everyone to get the most out of this class.
This class will be set up as a working studio class, meaning that each student will be working on their own projects. Come with photos and ideas, we will also have photo reference here if you are unsure what to paint. Scattered throughout this class will be demos, and exercises/small class projects to help advance the students skills.
In this class long time local watercolor artist Michael Heath will be guiding students toward painting in a classical style with confidence. Material quality is extremely important with watercolors. We will be using a limited color pallet of Graham watercolors, specific watercolor brushes to achieve the right techniques, and Arches 140 and 300 lb paper. Michael is an expert in PNW landscapes and has lots to share. Come learn from a local legend!
In this class we will be using professional quality paints, paper, and brushes. We have a few specific recommendations for brushes. They are not mandatory for the class, but they are recommended. We will send you a supply list for them upon registration in case you would like to purchase them. Additionally, if you have any favorite watercolor brushes at home you are welcome to bring them in and get Michael’s opinion.
